Decisions in Paradise Although, maximum organizations are incorporating computerization to carry out various tasks, the task related to the decisionmaking process still rests with the humans. Decision making process is one of the key processes in any organization because the success and even the survival of the organization depend on some crucial decisions. With such importance attached to decision making process, apt decisions has to be taken, taking into consideration various factors from all angles.

One of the decision making technique, which can help organization to analyze all factors is the Force Field analysis. This paper will analyze the strategies that can be formulated and implemented by The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf (CBTL) in Kava to strengthen its presence. As Force-Field Analysis focuses on “understanding the factors that would drive strategies and those that would hinder them”, CBTL can analyze both the driving and hindering factors to come up with an optimal plan. (United Nations Public Administration Network).

In the case, the decision making process was initiated by Nik and Alex to tap the opportunities or the driving forces that was available in the island of Kava. The first strategy that can be driven by various factors is the launching of a pan island Newspaper. Good decision-making starts from the right place (Paul and Elder). This initiative can exhibit how CBTL can launch any new initiative in an entirely new setting and importantly can exhibit its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to the citizens of the Kava, as newspapers are key mediums of social activism.

As these factors will act has a key driving force, the company can launch the next set of actions, which includes setting up a printing office in Kava. In both the printing section as well as in the newspaper content creating section, local people can be recruited. This step will also take care of CSR angle, as the local population will get good employment. Successful actualization of these initiatives will enable CBTL to garner funds from its investors and other financial backers. However, in line with the Force Field analysis, there are also some hindering forces in Kava, which will hinder the functioning of the newspaper and could also hinder further expansion of CBTL.

Kava is very susceptible to natural disasters, and as it is located in the Pacific, slew of natural disasters from Typhoons, earthquakes, volcanoes, etc could wreck the island including CBTL’s businesses. If the office of the newspaper is affected by any natural disaster, it could cause sizable financial damage and could also greatly affect its circulation. The other factor, which could hinder CBTL is the high prevalence of HIV among the Youth in Kava. With youth of Kava being the main target group for recruiting employees for the newspaper as well as for selling the newspapers as the customer segment, this factor could hinder CBTL.

These hindering forces particularly natural disasters can also be changed into driving forces, with apt corrective measures. Firstly, Newspaper office has to be constructed with strong and foolproof materials at a safe location away from the danger zones of Typhoon, earthquake, volcanoes. Even if something bad happens, the financial losses of office destruction can be covered by going for an Insurance cover for the office against natural disasters. These preventive measures can help CBTL to safeguard its newspaper office and help it to continue its operations.

In addition, through the newspaper and other campaigns, CBTL can weave away the youths of Kava from activities, which make them highly vulnerable to AIDS. Works Cited Paul, Richard and Elder, Linda.
