Extract of sample "Families and World War II"

Beginning of 1960, after Word War II, a change was experienced whereby married couples families with children increased to 44 percent while the percentage of married-couple families without children went down to 31 percent (Lerner et al. 67).

After twenty years, there was a significant change in household structure. There was a drop in the share of family households to 74 percent. The percentage share of nonfamily households went up to 26 percent while married couples without children went down to 31 percent. The one-person household increased by 10 percent. The transformation of the household structure has continued. There has been a significant decrease in married couples with children while the percentage representation of cohabiting couples. The one-person households have also increased. These changes are assumed to have occurred within the key driving social processes that include divorce, marriage, and marital or no marital childbearing. In response to the changing economic conditions, social norms, and the US law governing marriage, people have experienced some challenges in capturing the new family forms (Lerner et al. 77).
