Besides using pacing as a performance element, I would also apply in using gestures (including facial expressions and gestures) as performance elements in passing on messages to the audience of the play.

When it dropped below zero last night I thought I’d better send Frank out this morning to make a fire for us — ( sits right of the center table )” (Guswanto and Lailatul 31). The performance elements used by the Sheriff by using movement as a literary element are in accordance with the themes majored by the author of the play. In depicting that the Sheriff looked around the Kitchen, it shows how detectives gather evidence and that men rarely believe women in murder cases.

  • Tension

The tension is palpable all over Trifles. There is the tension of the crime committed. “There is tension from the women on what will be the fate of Mrs. Wright. The women are also tense around the men, who clearly do intimidate the ladies. The ladies, friends of Mrs. Wrights are nervous throughout the interrogation by the county attorney and the Sheriff” (Guswanto and Lailatul 29). I will use tension as a production feature, in making the performance of the play a success.

  • Emotions

Emotions are part and parcel of the performance of a given play, as postulated by scholars in the field of literature. In using emotional features outlined by the author in the play Trifle, I, as a production director, will make the play a success since “most of the emotions shown by the characters playing different roles in the play focus on the major themes focused on by the author” (Guswanto and Lailatul 26). As a production director for the play Trifles, I will use the emotional features and clues outlined by the author to make the performance of the play successful. As aforementioned, all the emotional scenes are applied by the author in accordance with the major themes focused on the author in the play.
